THE CONE 101 WORKSHIRT

Fit: Slim Fit. A slim fit throughout the body and arms, with high arm holes to give a very sharp silhouette. Even though it is a slim fit there is plenty of shoulder room, without being too wide.

Measurements (size small): Shoulder 17″, chest 19.75″, back length 25.75″, sleeve 25.5″, hip 19″.

Fabric: A rigid 12.5oz sanforized right hand twill 100% cotton selvedge denim from Cone Mills in North Carolina. A dark indigo warp and white weft. A little bit of small slub yarns in the warp and weft, adds a light crosshatch texture to this hairy denim.

Details:

  • Red and white selvedge ID
  • No back box pleat
  • Triple needle flat felled yoke and side seams
  • Chain stitched bottom

First Impressions: A very sharp fit and a really nice and interesting denim. A solid work shirt with modern dress shirt silhouette. I love the feel of this denim when worn, ridged and crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside. The texture really comes to life after a soak the ultra sharp creasing is going to lead to some breath taking fades. For this piece, Gustin teamed up with a small shop that exclusively sews reproduction workwear for Japanese brands – always above $300 per shirt. The collaboration really shows, as the stitching is really well done. The only issue I found with this shirt is with the buttons. They are a bit unevenly placed, causing the pockets to seem a little off center when worn. The left pocket is also slightly smaller then the right which adds to the illusion that the pockets are off center, although they are not. This is an easy fix and in my opinion, worth it for the price. I am really looking forward to breaking it in.
