Cut: Comfort Tapered. Samurai Jeans take on the relaxed tapered cut. Developed by Okayama Denim for SJ. Med high rise, relaxed thighs and an aggressive taper down the leg.
Measurements (Size 33): Waist 35″, rise 11″, back rise 15″, thigh 12.6″, knee 8.5″, hem 6.9″, inseam 35.6″ Shrinks about half an inch in the waist and about .75″ in length.
Fabric: 15oz unsanforized right hand twill denim made from 100% Texas cotton. A very tightly woven, rigid denim with plenty of nep and hair. A light amount of slub. The rope dyed indigo warp and white weft produce moderately fast fading. Because of how tightly this denim is woven you should expect very little shrinkage for an unsanforized denim, even with a hot soak. This denim acts more like a sanforized denim in that aspect. Also, don’t count on tons of stretch either as the weave gets even tighter after a soak.
Texas cotton is known for its rough texture due to the high amounts of short cotton fibers. With most denim using Texas cotton, a good amount of these short fibers are removed to create a smoother denim. Samurai Jeans goes the other way and adds even MORE short fibers, resulting in a rough and tough fabric. My kind of denim!

First Impressions: Damn!!! Okayama Denim has done some amazing collaborations but this is one of their finest pieces of work to date. They found the perfect balance of jam packed details without getting gaudy. Samurai Jeans is known for their lavish use of details, sometimes even a little too much for some. OD has reined in the peripherals on this model and has delivered a stunning beauty. I really like the cut, a good balance of comfort and sharp fit. This is the first pair of jeans I own that has hidden arc’s and I’m looking forward to the evolution of the back pockets. The branded rivets are another nice touch as it rounds out the surface and wont scratch up things you may rub up against. A clever design on the leather patch shows the two Samurai’s swords crossing to create the “X” between the two collaborators (as in Okayama Denim X Samurai Jeans). Even with all thats going on on the patch, it still comes across as clean and not too busy. I really have nothing but good things to say about this pair. These are going straight into rotation.
Get this pair at Okayama Denim while they last.
